Metal Detection Limits

Metal Detection Capability for Multiwall Sacks

Customers inquire about the multiwall sack producers’ ability to detect foreign metal objects in the multiwall sacks they purchase. Producers, of course, strive to avoid any metallic contamination of multiwall sacks and include detection capability in their manufacturing process to assure the absence of these contaminants.

Recently, the Technical Committee of PSSMA, which is composed of the technical leaders of PSSMA member companies, surveyed its members to assess the industry’s minimum detection capability for ferrous and non-ferrous metals using currently available technology. They also reviewed a member-provided consultant’s report on this topic.

The survey confirmed the consultant’s conclusion that the minimum achievable detection values were 2.0 mm diameter for ferrous metals and 3.0 mm diameter for non-ferrous metals under normal multiwall production conditions.
