COOPERSBURG, PA (May 28, 2019) – The Paper Shipping Sack Manufacturers’ Association (PSSMA) has announced the winners of its Safety Awards Program for 2018.  The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the best annual safety experience in 2018 in the man-hour categories shown are:

  • 150,000 to 225,000 manhours – A Tie.  El Dorado Packaging, Inc., Omaha, Nebraska Plant & TC Transcontinental Packaging, Hanford, California Plant
  • 225,000 to 325,000 manhours – Hood Packaging Corporation, Crossett, Arkansas Plant
  • Over 325,000 manhours – Hood Packaging Corporation, Monticello, Arkansas Plant

The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the greatest annual safety improvement in 2018 in the man-hour categories shown are:

  • Less than 150,000 manhours – Bag Supply Company, Moody, Alabama Plant
  • 150,000 to 225,000 manhours – Mondi Bags USA LLC., Wellsburg, West Virginia Plant
  • 225,000 to 325,000 manhours – TC Transcontinental Packaging, Tifton, Georgia Plant
  • Over 325,000 manhours – Bancroft Bag, Inc., West Monroe, Louisiana Plant

Best annual safety experience was determined on the basis of lowest total recordable incidence rate in each annual manhour category.  Greatest annual safety improvement was determined on the basis of greatest decrease in total incidence rate between 2017 and 2018. 

These awards were presented at the PSSMA Production Managers’ Seminar at the Osthoff Hotel at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on May 15, 2019.

The following plants had zero incidence rates in 2018:

  • Bag Supply Company’s Moody, Alabama Plant
  • El Dorado Packaging’s Omaha, Nebraska Plant
  • Hood Packaging Corporation’s Crossett, Alabama Plant
  • Hood Packaging Corporation’s Monticello, Alabama Plant
  • TC Transcontinental Packaging’s Hanford, California Plant
