For Immediate Release: PSSMA Announces 2024 Safety Award Winners 

COOPERSBURG, PA (May 13, 2025) – The Paper Shipping Sack Manufacturers’ Association (PSSMA) has announced the winners of its annual Safety Awards Program for paper shipping sack manufacturing plants in 2024. These awards were presented to company representatives on April 30, 2025, at the PSSMA’s 2025 Production Managers’ Seminar. The meeting was held April 29-May 1, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. PSSMA Chairman Clint Sells with The Robinette Company underscored the multiwall bag industry’s improving safety record, as the total recordable incidence rate of 2.6 reported for 2024 was one of the lowest achieved in recent years. Mr. Sells congratulated each of the safety award winners and concluded by saying, “everyone wins when safety comes first.”   

The Best Annual Safety Experience awards were determined based on the lowest total recordable incidence rate in each of the four annual manhour categories in 2024.  The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the Best Annual Safety Experience in 2024 in the man-hour categories shown are:

Less than 150,000 manhours: Bag Supply Company, Moody, Alabama Plant; Central Bag Company, Leavenworth, Kansas Plant, Langston Companies, West Memphis, Arkansas Plant each with zero recordable incidents. 

150,000 to 215,000 manhours: Hood Packaging Corporation, Hanford, California Plant and Wilmington, Ohio Plant; Mondi Bags USA, Romeoville, Illinois Plant and Pine Bluff, Arkansas Plant; each with zero recordable incidents.   

215,000 to 300,000 manhours: Hood Packaging Corporation, Crossett, Arkansas Plant with zero recordable incidents.

Over 300,000 manhours: Mondi Bags USA, Salt Lake City, Utah Plant with zero recordable incidents.

The Best Annual Safety Improvement awards were determined based on the greatest decreases in total recordable incidence rates reported in 2024 compared to 2023. The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the Best Annual Safety Improvementin 2024 in the man-hour categories shown are:

Less than 150,000 manhours: Northeast Packaging Company, Presque Isle, Maine Plant 

150,000 to 215,000 manhours: SeaTac Packaging Manufacturing Corporation, Puyallup, Washington Plant

215,000 to 300,000 manhours: Hood Packaging Corporation, Tifton, Georgia Plant

Over 300,000 manhours – The Robinette Company, Piney Flats, Tennessee Plant

The following nine paper shipping sack manufacturing plants were recognized for having zero recordable incidence rates in 2024:
