Paper Shipping Sack Manufacturers’ Association (PSSMA) Embarks on Information Campaign
Program will Promote Recycling of Food Paper Shipping Sacks

COOPERSBURG, PA (March 31, 2016) – The Paper Shipping Sack Manufacturers’ Association (PSSMA) is rolling out a new communications campaign to promote recovery of paper shipping sacks that are used to transport food products for recycling.

The campaign will officially launch in April, 2016, when a new, responsive website goes live at www.pssma.org. The website will include new information areas addressing the sustainability and recycling of multiwall paper shipping sacks, and is being redesigned for ease of use from any connected device (desktop, mobile or tablet).

PSSMA’s communications program will include outreach to customers, food producers who purchase multiwall sacks for transporting products such as sugar, flour, grains, and other food ingredients. The PSSMA also intends to inform end-users, who receive those products, about recycling the sacks after they have been emptied.  These include bakeries, restaurants, foodservice providers, institutional kitchens and other entities that prepare food for consumption.

PSSMA’s information campaign will focus on promoting recovery of unlined food paper shipping sacks. The PSSMA recently established that these sacks can be recovered with OCC, in one waste stream, making it much easier and more cost-effective for end-users to recycle them. “We want to inform all users how easily they can recover these paper shipping sacks for recycling. Not only will their efforts help increase the recovery rate, they’ll also save money on waste disposal while improving their own sustainable business practices,” said Richard Storat, President of PSSMA.

A recycling emblem for printing on unlined food paper shipping sacks will also be introduced in April. By printing the symbol on eligible sacks, manufacturers will help spread the message about paper-based packaging’s sustainability. Both the paper shipping sack manufacturers and their customers will benefit from increased awareness and recovery.

Additional communication materials will be developed to reach and inform all stakeholders. For more information, contact PSSMA at http://pssma.org/contact.html.
